Meet Our Patients: Marwa

Marwa was just 9 years old when she was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a type of bone and soft-tissue cancer, common in children. It’s been a long and hard battle for Marwa and her family since. But receiving free treatment at Shaukat Khanum Hospital meant she had a fair chance against cancer.

“I witnessed that everyone, rich and poor, received the same medicines, treatment and services. My daughter received the best care, recovered and is now back home.” – Marwa’s Father

This year, thanks to the support of our donors and Shaukat Khanum Hospital staff, Marwa completed her final chemo cycle. You can read Marwa’s story by clicking below.

About Sadaqah

Sadaqah means charity. It is the spirit of giving sincerely for the sake of Allah (SWT), and every act of generosity can become a source of comfort for someone in need.

“For those who give in charity, men and women, and loan to Allah a beautiful loan, it shall be increased manifold to their credit.”

The Holy Qur’an 57:18

At Imran Khan Cancer Appeal, Sadaqah helps fund free cancer care for patients who would otherwise have no access to treatment. It supports life-saving medicine, hospital services, and the dignity of care for families facing an overwhelming journey.

Through the generosity of donors around the world, we continue to expand our reach, strengthen our hospitals, and bring hope to those who need it most.

Examples of Sadaqah

Examples of Sadaqah

Sadaqah can take many forms. It can be a contribution towards treatment, practical support for hospitals, or simply easing the burden on a family experiencing hardship.

  • Treatment for poor cancer patients
  • Hospital meals for patients who cannot afford food
  • Essential equipment and improved clinical services
  • Construction and expansion of hospital facilities

“Guard yourselves against the Fire, even if it is only with half a date in charity; and if you cannot afford even that, then at least say a good word.”

Muslim

When to Give Sadaqah

When to Give Sadaqah

Sadaqah can be given at any time. Many people give in moments of gratitude, on special occasions, or when praying for relief during difficulty, illness, or bereavement.

What matters most is sincerity. Whether given publicly or in secret, every sincere gift offered for the sake of Allah (SWT) carries value and can become a means of mercy for both giver and receiver.

“Charity does not, in any way, decrease the wealth and the servant who forgives, Allah adds to his respect.”

Muslim

The Difference Between Sadaqah and Zakat

The Difference Between Sadaqah and Zakat

Both Sadaqah and Zakat are forms of giving in Islam, but they are not the same. Zakat is an obligatory act of worship with clear rules, while Sadaqah is voluntary and broader in its expression.

“Good works protect from evil fates; charity in secret extinguishes the wrath of the Lord, and every good deed is charity.”

Al-Mu’jam al-Awsat

Sadaqah can be given by anyone, at any time, and in many forms. That flexibility makes it a beautiful way to support patients, strengthen hospitals, and respond to urgent needs with compassion.
