The Zakat you paid last Ramadan allowed us to provide free cancer treatment for 75% of our patients throughout 2022. For many of them, it was a lifeline.

The people who come to Shaukat Khanum Hospital are too poor to meet their basic daily needs, let alone the high cost of cancer treatment. In the worst cases, some cannot even afford to take away their deceased for burial without financial aid.

Read our Zakat Guide to find out more about who we give your Zakat to, who is eligible for Zakat, and about Zakat transparency at IKCA.

Use our Zakat Calculator to work out your Zakat for this year. Pay your Zakat online and in whole today or start paying it in instalments by sponsoring the full or partial treatment of a poor cancer patient at Shaukat Khanum Hospital.

What is Zakat?

Zakat is a compulsory annual charity for eligible Muslims. It is one of the five pillars of Islam and is paid from wealth that has been held for one lunar year above the Nisab threshold.

Do I have to pay Zakat?

You need to pay Zakat if you are an adult Muslim of sound mind and your qualifying wealth remains above the Nisab threshold for one full lunar year.

What do I have to pay Zakat on?

Assets on which Zakat is payable include:

  • Cash (in hand, in a bank account, or lent to others)
  • Shares or investments that provide income
  • Business stocks
  • Pensions
  • Gold and silver (as jewellery and stocks)

Zakat is not payable on assets for personal use such as the home you live in or your car.

What is the Nisab value this Ramadan?

The Nisab value changes with the market value of gold and silver. You can use the latest Nisab amount published by your organisation or local scholar when calculating your Zakat.

Our Zakat transparency

We take care to ensure Zakat is used only for eligible patients and services. Our teams follow a clear review process so donations reach those most in need.

Who gets my Zakat?
