About Sadaqah

The 1992 Cricket World Cup changed the face of cancer care in Pakistan, thanks to a new hospital inspired by the win.

30 Years later, our company partners are putting the power of enterprise into our fight against cancer. Together, we are doing more for global health equality, as we close the care gap in Pakistan.

Companies like the Living Islam department store in Bradford, have helped us expand our reach, resources, and impact. Thanks to businesses like theirs, we’re at the forefront of the fight against cancer in Pakistan.

Together, we’ve achieved…

Raising Standards

We’re raising the standards of healthcare with our JCI-accredited hospitals and state-of-the-art medical facilities.

Working for Equality

We’re bridging the care gap in Pakistan by providing free cancer care to 75% of our neediest patients every year.

Developing

We’re developing the way cancer is treated through multidisciplinary care provided by a host of specialist staff.

Investing

We’re investing in infrastructure nationwide by building new hospitals, diagnostics centres, screening clinics, laboratory collection centres and more.

ABOUT IMRAN KHAN

ABOUT IMRAN KHAN

Imran Khan is the former Prime Minister of Pakistan. And yet, he remains most vividly in public memory as the captain who led the Pakistan team to victory at the 1992 Cricket World Cup. The cricket legend has come a long way from sports to philanthropy to politics. Throughout this extraordinary journey, his driving force has remained the same: a desire for social justice and equality.

Shaukat Khanum Hospital was the first step and milestone. It became a testament to Imran’s resolve and a national achievement that he is proud to have spearheaded. It remains at the forefront of Imran Khan’s ongoing philanthropic works. Thanks to him, free cancer care for the poor of Pakistan became possible.

‘On the 29th of December 1994, when the doors of Shaukat Khanum Hospital opened, it was a feeling of triumph within the country. It was like winning another world cup.’

—Imran Khan

Imran Khan — The Early Years

Imran Khan, the Cricketer

Imran Khan’s career began in sports. There were many distinguished cricketers in his family. Two of his cousins, Javed Burki and Majid Khan, served as captains of the Pakistan national team. Imran spent much of his youth playing cricket in Pakistan and England and continued to play while studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford.

‘My biggest prize money in cricket was winning the World Cup in 1992. The total amount was £90,000. I gave all of that to the hospital and 15-20 per cent of my subsequent earnings.’

The Difference Between Sadaqah and Zakat

Feeling inspired? Download our 2022 Feedback Report to see all the extraordinary ways your business can make a difference.

If you’re a Muslim business owner, paying Zakat on your annual profits is an obligation. We can give you peace of mind.

For over 27 years, our supporters have trusted us to administer their Zakat. And we’ve shown them that through the Islamic concept of Zakat, the most basic social justices like healthcare are never impossible. It’s how we’ve been able to provide free cancer care in a country without a national health service for more than a generation.

Find out more about the obligation of Zakat, its conditions in Islam, and Zakat transparency at IKCA.

The Difference Between Sadaqah and Zakat

‘For those who give in Charity, men and women, and loan to Allah a Beautiful Loan, it shall be increased manifold [to their credit], and they shall have [besides] a liberal reward.’

(The Holy Qur’an 57:18)
